Honoring Quiet Devotion: Spirit-Led Care that Sweetens Humanity’s Soul

HURU invites you to discover The Acolytes Initiative—an honoring of those who quietly shape culture and community through grace, care, and reverence.

Inspired by the tender truths illuminated by Nikki Giovanni’s poetry, these torchbearers move gently and without fanfare. Yet their influence radiates through small acts of kindness, spiritual depth, and the healing spaces they create for others.

In a world often hurried and loud, their steady presence reminds us that rest leads to freedom, and that stillness can soften even the hardest edges of our lives.

This season, we recognize four such Acolytes whose work exemplifies HURU’s ethos of tenderness, humility, and reverence, and extend to them a simple offering: a private meditation, a day of rest, and a place in a sacred circle—gifts that mirror the quiet devotion they so generously share.

Meet the Acolytes

  • Jimeka Jones Setzer

    PASTOR + COMMUNITY NURTURER

Within the welcoming hum of Ebenezer’s Coffeehouse, Pastor Jimeka shepherds a community that finds the divine in everyday encounters. Through Church at Well, she guides seekers to pause, reflect, and rediscover faith’s quiet warmth over a shared cup—proving that sacred spaces can exist in the most ordinary places.

  • Hazel Cherry

ASSISTANT DEAN, ANDREW RANKIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL

Rev. Cherry holds space at the tender intersection between adolescence and adulthood. In guiding students through spiritual exploration, she cultivates humility, courage, and a deeper sense of purpose. Her work encourages young minds to move thoughtfully through life’s liminal passages, discovering stillness amid the unknown.

  • Risi Idiokitas

    DOCTOR OF ACUPUNCTURE + FOUNDER

Dr. Idiokitas tends to the most delicate thresholds of human experience. In her work with pediatric patients in palliative care, she cultivates comfort, helping young souls and their families find grace and stillness during life’s transitions at Children’s Hospital and through her Bravest Littles practice. Her gentle presence is a balm that honors both the fragility and resilience of the human spirit.

  • Yasmine Cheyenne

AUTHOR + GUIDE TO INNER WISDOM

Yasmine Cheyenne’s words invite others to journey inward, embracing vulnerability and truth. Through intimate gatherings and compassionate dialogue, she helps individuals gently unravel their inner landscapes. Her quiet guidance affirms that meaningful transformation often unfolds in moments of reflection, honesty, and rest.

Imani Samuels, HURU Founder

“These Acolytes carry subtle flames, offering quiet illumination that can soften the hardest days and bring depth to the most ordinary moments. In recognizing their work, HURU reaffirms its belief that rest is a sacred act and that meaningful change often emerges in the stillness many overlook.”

For all who come here, may these lives inspire a deeper understanding: that peace and spaciousness are not luxuries, but gentle invitations calling each of us home to ourselves.
