How-to Guide for Loved Ones
If someone you care about is planning to attend our HURU Rest Retreat, we understand that you may have questions or concerns about how to support them during this time. Here are some tips to help you understand what they'll be experiencing and how you can be there for them:
How loved ones can support…
Respect the need for silence and solitude
During the retreat, your loved one will be fully embracing the silence and disconnecting from the outside world. This means they may not be available to answer calls or messages, and they may not want to engage in conversation when they return. Try to respect their need for space and understand that this is a necessary part of their retreat experience.
Provide emergency contact information
Know that you can reach out to the HURU Host at 202 630 6033 in case of an urgent need. If you need to get in touch with them, trust that your loved one will respond as soon as they are able.
Support them in taking care of themselves
While your loved one is away, make sure that they have arranged for necessary childcare or other support for any dependents. Offer to help with tasks or errands before they leave so that they can fully focus on their retreat without worrying about unfinished business.
Be open to hearing about their experience
After the retreat, your loved one may want to share their experience with you. Be open to hearing about their time away, and try to avoid judging or questioning their decision to take time for themselves. Encourage them to continue to prioritize self-care and offer your support as they integrate what they learned during the retreat back into their daily life.
